Court Locations   Court Locations (Civil-Toronto)

All Toronto civil courthouse facilities for the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Superior Court of Justice are in the Queen/University area.

Osgoode Hall

130 Queen Street West

Osgoode Hall

Osgoode Hall is located on the northeast corner of Queen Street and University Avenue. Use the Osgoode station via TTC. You can also use the Queen station on the Yonge line and walk two blocks west along Queen Street. Parking is available at the City Hall underground parking area and there is a street level parking lot at Richmond and University.

Court of Appeal (usually courtrooms 1, 2 and 10) and Divisional Court (usually courtroom 3) matters are dealt with here. Although Motions Court sits here every day for judges' motions (usually courtrooms 4, 5 and 6), judges' motions may also be heard at 361 University and 393 University when the lists are lengthy. Be sure you check the building where the appeal, hearing, motion or pre-trial conference is scheduled.

Enter using the main centre doors on Queen Street as daily lists of matters to be heard are posted immediately on the right inside the main doors. Security officers may be able to assist you in locating courtrooms which are all located on the main and second floors. Courtrooms are numbered 1 through 10 and the naming does not assist in locating them. Courtrooms 7, 8, 9 and 10 are on the first floor. Courtrooms 1-6 are on the second floor.

Court of Appeal and Divisional Court offices are on your left as you enter the main Queen Street doors. The Motions Court office is at 393 University Avenue 10th floor. The Court of Appeal in civil matters sits only in Toronto. Click here for a link to the Court of Appeal website. The Divisional Court has weekly sessions in Toronto. The Divisional Court also has sittings outside Toronto in Newmarket, Hamilton, Milton, Ottawa, Sudbury, London and Thunder Bay. For the currently scheduled sitting dates outside of Toronto in 2004 and 2005 from the Divisional Court website, click here.

The Judges' Reception office is on the left past the Divisional Court office.

The Great Library is located on the second floor. Either of the staircases to the left and right immediately inside the main doors will take you there.

Robing Rooms are on the main floor on the east side of the building. Turn right at the first corridor once inside the main entrance and follow the signs.

Osgoode Hall is also the home of the Law Society of Upper Canada, whose main reception is on the east side of the building accessible from the west side of Nathan Phillips Square. The Education wing of the Law Society, where the Toronto section of the Bar Admission Course is taught, also enters through the same door.

The Courthouse

361 University Avenue

University Avenue Courthouse

The main Toronto courthouse is located just north of Queen Street on the east side of University Avenue. It is often referred to as the new courthouse, although it has been open since 1961. Use the Osgoode station via TTC and walk one-half block north from Queen Street. You can also use the St. Patrick station and walk south one and one-half blocks from Dundas Street. Parking is available at the City Hall underground parking area and underground at 393 University Avenue. A street-level parking lot is available at the corner of Centre Avenue and Armoury Street.

Superior Court of Justice trials and pre-trial conferences are dealt with here, including some criminal trials. Judges' motions are sometimes heard here when there is a lengthy list. Be sure you check the building where the trial, motion, hearing or pre-trial conference is scheduled.

You can enter through the main doors on University or via the western edge of the Nathan Phillips Square at Toronto's City Hall. There is also an entrance off Armoury Street which will take you to the elevators and escalators. The main desk is at the centre of the building next to the escalators. Security officers are available to assist in locating courtroom locations and all daily lists are posted here. Daily lists are also posted at the University entrance, although security assistance is more limited there.

Courtrooms are located on the main through seventh floors. Courtrooms are named by floor and room number; i.e. Courtroom 4-1 is located on the fourth floor.

The Judges' Reception office is on the third floor at the west end of the building.

The Toronto Lawyers Association Library is located on the third floor in a connected, but separate, building on the south side of the courthouse. Quicklaw facilities are available in the library. An elevator is available from outside in the passageway to Nathan Phillips Square between the courthouse and the rear of Osgoode Hall.

The University Centre building houses most of the administrative offices of the courts, as well as containing numerous courtrooms. The entrance is through the third building entrance north of Armoury Street on the east side of University Avenue. It is a high rise office tower which includes Ontario government offices and private businesses as well as the court offices and courtrooms. Access is also available from Centre Avenue.

Use the St. Patrick station and walk south one-half block from Dundas Street. You can also use the Osgoode station via TTC and walk one and one-half blocks north from Queen Street. Underground parking is available at 393 University Avenue and at the City Hall underground parking area. A street-level parking lot is available at the corner of Centre Avenue and Armoury Street.

Superior Court of Justice trials, masters motions, bankruptcy proceedings, Commercial Court hearings and pre-trial conferences are dealt with here.
