Pricing and Payment Policy

At Hooey Remus, part of our mission statement is a commitment to helping our clients achieve their objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner. We pride ourselves on providing expert legal advice at a reasonable cost, but we also recognize that quality legal services can be expensive.

Due to the uncertainty of the amount of work that may be required, most of our services are provided on an hourly rate basis. On request, we will provide an estimate of the legal fees and anticipated disbursements once we have sufficient information about the nature of the matter to do so. For corporate or litigation services, we may adjust our fees with regard to the amount in issue, the complexity of the matter, the importance of the matter to the client, urgency and the results obtained.

We encourage clients to discuss hourly rates and fees with our lawyers at the initial meeting or at any subsequent time. Hourly rates are usually adjusted annually. Our accounts detail the nature of the services we have provided, although our time records are available for client review during regular office hours upon prior arrangement.

Where ability to pay is an issue, we are pleased to discuss arrangements for payment over a mutually satisfactory period of time.

We render interim accounts on a monthly basis, unless other arrangements have been made at the time of our initial retainer. Unpaid accounts are subject to interest, commencing 30 days after delivery of our account, in accordance with the Solicitors Act. Where an account remains unpaid without satisfactory payment arrangements, subject to the Rules of Professional Conduct of the Law Society of Upper Canada, we will decline to provide any further services, in addition to taking any other collection remedies available to us.

Where a corporate client has established pricing and payment guidelines for outside counsel and provided such guidelines to us as part of our engagement, we will adhere to those guidelines, rather than our own pricing and payment policy described above.
